On November 30/01 December, The Llanarth Group was invited to tour richard III redux OR Sara Beer IS/NOT Richard III to Barcelona for two performances at the National Theatre of Catalonia. The invitation was from We Act—the organisation that sponsors the annual Festival Simbiotic. Our wonderful hosts at We Act and the National Theatre of Catalonia provided all the support we needed so that Sara Beer was able to give two outstanding performances. She received numerous (was it four or five) curtain calls at the conclusion of both performances.
In Alba Cuenca Sanchez’s review of Sara’s performances, ‘WE NEED MORE SARA BEER(S)’, notes how ‘Beer pulls off [a performance with] charisma and acidic humor without renouncing warmth. On the stage, she is a woman proud of her body and invites us to normalize it. An actress who remembers with great irony all the blows that have advised her to change her profession without even having seen her act. And a person who makes us accomplices… and asks us why her body must talk more than her actions…Let us all talk. Of her and all the Saras Beers that are so necessary’ [on stage].
As reported elsewhere, the script of richard III redux was one of three finalists at the Traverse Theatre in 2019 for the (2018) James Tait Black Prize in Drama for innovation in dramatic form.
WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PLANNING FURTHER TOURING for richard III redux in 2020/2021. Please contact Phillip Zarrilli if interested.
